HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR ISLAMIC CANVAS ART

1. Keep your paintings out of direct sunlight.

Your canvas painting will have a protective layer of varnish over it, but does not mean that in such conditions your painting will not crack or discolour, or fade.  Please ensure that The painting is kept out of bright sunlight, and not subjected to this for a long period of time.

2.
Do not lean anything against the surface of a canvas.

It always surprises us what will cause a scratch or a rip on the canvas, it is therefore very important to keep objects away which seem sharp enough to cause damage to the canvas. . Also keep your painting away from anything that might press against the surface or lean onto the frame of the artwork

3.
Dust your paintings.

It is important to dust your Islamic paintings with a clean, soft rag occasionally, this will prevent dust from  building up. Don’t use cleaning products such as household detergents or even water!

4.
Hang your paintings away from very busy and possibly messy areas.

It is possible that over time your piece of artwork may accumulate particles of smoke, dust,  and even grease from cooking oils. If is best to display your canvas art in places where it will be less exposed to these elements. Also areas such as a  very busy hallway may not be the best place to display your painting.

5.
Wrap your painting well if you plan to transport it.

If you are moving, or storing your artwork, ensure that you painting has been packaged carefully.  Cover the front with a piece of cardboard over it to protect the canvas, or put bubble wrap around it if possible.  Be extra careful with the corners as they are most likely to get damaged during transportation, rough handling will damage both the painting and the frame, so make sure artwork is handled with care.

6.
Try to avoid extreme changes in atmosphere.

Avoid excessive dryness, humidity, heat or cold. All of these conditions can affect the state of your artwork in a negative way (paint cracking, etc.).By subjecting your paintings to such extreme conditions, you will be causing irreparable damage to the artwork.

7.
Don’t fix damaged paintings yourself.

If you find your painting has been damaged and would like advice regarding this please email us and we will be happy to advise you on how to repair your canvas painting inshaAllah.   Amateur repairs can reduce the value of your artwork drastically.  Please do not try and paint over the canvas.

8.
Do not frame paintings on canvas under glass.

A painting can take a long time to dry completely,  If it is framed under glass before it dries, it  will trap moisture inside the frame. Canvases experience and respond to mild atmospheric changes, so it is best to leave artwork without glass to allow them to change with these slight changes.  The canvas must be stretched properly on the supporting frame, to minimize factors which that might cause shrinking and expansion of the paint layer.

9.
Do not cover paintings with plastic for long periods of time.

If there is humidity in the air, your artwork may start to grow mould. Cover your Islamic painting with cotton sheets to prevent dust.
